Jake's Greenhouse and Garden Center began as a dream back in 1985. At the time, Craig Kershner was finishing up his BS in Horticulture at Penn State University and was looking into the possibility of opening his own greenhouse in Berks County, PA. After working for a year at the former Oberholtzer's Greenhouse in Brickerville, PA, Craig erected his first greenhouse on a rented parcel of land in Wernersville, PA. Initially, the operation was strictly wholesale, selling to department stores, grocery stores and garden centers. In a little over two years, now three greenhouses on less than one acre of land, the operation was quickly outgrowing the site. A search began for a new location.

A small dairy farm was being subdivided in Sinking Spring and a section of the property with a 100-year-old dairy barn seemed to be appropriate. The present site of Jake's Greenhouse and Garden Center was purchased in the Spring of 1989. The greenhouses were moved to Mountain Home Road and more were added over the years. In 1994, Craig married the former Jennifer Tallman, and within two years she joined the operation full-time, working in wholesale and eventually managing the garden center. By 1998, the operation had expanded to just under two acres of greenhouses. Over the summer of 1998 the dairy barn was remodeled, and on September 25, 1998, Jake's Garden Center opened its doors.

In the Spring of 2000, Craig started the landscape division. Drawing from almost 20 years of landscape design and installation experience, he initially designed the landscapes and installed them with a small crew. During this time, Craig was training his landscape installers to become foreman who would carry on his high standards of quality and attention to detail. By 2006, the landscape division had expanded to four crews and Randi Baker, a landscape designer with 26 years of experience, was hired.

Today, the wholesale division ships quality Easter plants, a full line of annuals and perennials, and Hardy Chrysanthemums within a 200 mile radius of Sinking Spring and is always seeking new customers.

The garden center offers hard goods as well as the highest quality and broadest selection of plant materials in the area. Jake's also offers a unique gift shop and full service florist, with wire service and delivery to surrounding communities.

The landscape division offers free estimates and is eager to design and build the landscape of your dreams.

All of this would not be possible without the dedication of our knowledgeable staff. They have truly been the backbone of Jake's Greenhouse and have given the business the ability to expand and better serve it customers.
